Today I posted a reel to Instagram [@Brianna_Lentz is my handle in case you want to follow me] and it was a reel of me wearing a crochet scarf I made back in 2015! and was most likely the first time that I had worn it, ever. I proceeded to wear my own handmade items all week and even let my 9 year old daughter wear my scarf out and about this week too.
The scarf I am wearing is made with crochet.
The pattern is the Bellflower Infinity Scarf and was originally published by Yarnspirations, which you can find on Ravelry here. I used two balls of Wool Ease Yarn by Lion Brand.
I think sometimes as creators and makers, some of us, not all of us, make make make for others and then feel guilty for taking the time to make things for ourselves, or we make or knit for example or stitch as another example only for ourselves and get so caught up in the process that any fully finished object becomes too precious to use.

Silly isn’t it?
Well, I am not doing that anymore. Over the last year my husband and I have really adopted this ideal if we have it we use it, we don’t need to save it as a precious item. If we don’t use it why do we have it? Nothing is off limits. Now that applies to my handmade items as well. The kids want to play with it, let them enjoy it.
Maybe, subconsciously, that is part of why I am enjoying crocheting toys so much. I am making these for the sole purpose of them being used. Not to be stationary but functional. I love that. I love stitching and making home decor but these crochet toys are in your face all year long creating fun and imagination for kids and adults too. That is a very joyous thing for me.
One of the reasons I love crochet as a craft or a hobby is the fact that it is so forgiving. It is fast and the things you can make with it can be so nostalgic as well as modern. It is something I can confidently tell children through the age of adults they can do. It keeps your mind and motor skills sharp for all ages. For a craft that is so flexible, it is odd to think that for so long I was so rigid about my finished projects in crochet.
I have some handmade items for sell in my Etsy Store BriannaLentzShop if you would like to take a look. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts today and I hope you are doing well and have found yourself inspired.
