Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orisha #1)
Wow! What an adventure this is.
I have heard so many great things about this story and I believe it deserves every accolade it has received. The world this author has built is original and different than any other fantasy I have read, YA or adult, and I appreciate the diversity this author has brought to this genre a lot.
Now, is this a perfect book? No. There were a few things that went unexplained a little bit too long that I feel were important to the storyline, or how major events were playing out as the story progressed. I do not expect everything to be laid out for me, but I do expect a certain number of holes to be filled along the way ta little bit sooner hat are rather important. Sometimes, there was a lot of action, and in that action I felt an important detail would be expected of the reader to assume…but couldn’t be. And then all of a sudden in a later action scene all of those questions were answered all at once, assuming you as the reader, guessed correctly. I hope that makes sense.
I am not trying to be too critical here, but that is my one critique of the writing of this story.
Now, let us talk about the character building. The author did a fabulous job letting us get to know each character, very intimately, though the character’s own narrative and through the narratives introspection towards the people around them and I loved that about this story. I became extremely invested, not only in the end goal of this story, but about each character, and what their purpose was in the story. You felt the raw emotion of each character, which the author strove very hard to have every reader feel. Her purpose for this story goes beyond fantasy and I think she did an excellent job achieving that goal to the best of each reader’s ability to feel it.
I would highly recommend this to Young Adults and Adults. I cannot wait to read the next in the series. I do not normally buy books when they first come out, but I will be buying this next one as soon as I can.
This book is fantastic.
