DIY Valentine Art That is Both Simple and Beautiful

This DIY Valentine Art That is Both Simple and Beautiful is such a great activity, especially for this homeschooling mama!

We spent the afternoon painting and laughing and seriously had the best time working on these valentine’s for family. I am going to be mailing these valentines to close family from the girls. This is such an easy and inexpensive way to send a handmade I LOVE YOU.

I first found this idea while scrolling on Instagram and came across a reel by Mamapandapainter on IG. She has a ton of fun and quick tutorials on Instagram so I recommend you go check out her page.

You can visually watch the kids paint this DIY Valentine Art That is Both Simple and Beautiful in my video on my youtube channel here:

The supplies you need are really simple. You do not be as elaborate as I was with supplies. You need paper thick enough to handle watercolor, watercolor paint, brushes, heart-shaped cookie cutters, and washi tape. I chose to cut the paper out into sizes 4×6 and 5×7 so I could easily frame them for years to come. [I love framing my girl’s art!]

I use these nonslip silicone mats that I found on Amazon for all our paint and messy crafts. You can check those out and more here in my Amazon Storefront HERE.

We used washi tape to stick the paper to the mat. Then placed wide wash tape to the center of the paper before watercoloring to make a place write our message to our valentine.

Load up one of your brushes with watercolor paint and paint the inside of your cutter using it as a stencil. Remove cookie cutter and fill with water and paint! That easy.

After you paint your image you can splatter watercolor on your valentine as well. That is totally optional. Finally you can remove the center washi tape and write your heartfelt message in the center. This part was so fun to see what the girls would write. I loved watching my daughter July write hers. She is in first grade and has made tremendous progress in reading and writing these past few months!

Remove all your wash tape and voila! you are finished with your DIY Valentine Art That is Both Simple and Beautiful.

I think handmade valentines are so sweet. We can really see a trend of families moving towards slower living again. I think this DIY Valentine Art That is Both Simple and Beautiful is a really great way to slow down and send a thoughtful note that is easier to make and funner to receive than a simple card from the store or a letter. Snail mail still exists and I can see us incorporating sending mail to friends and family more heavily in our homeschool years to come.
