Prairie Schooler Cross Stitch Kit

Prairie Schooler Cross Stitch Kit

This week I created a customized Prairie Schooler Cross Stitch Kit. This cross stitch kit includes a custom Prairie Schooler project tote bag, custom thread drops or floss drops using my cricut maker, as well as a small canvas zipper pouch to hold my scross stitch tools designed with my own svg which you can purchase at BriannaLentzShop.etsy.com.

I wanted to create my own Prairie Schooler Cross Stitch Kit because Prairie Schooler cross stitch charts and patterns repeat the same fabric type and DMC color choices throughout the work. So if i kit up Farm Fresh I am most likely going to be using these same DMC colors in another Prairie Schooler Cross Stitch chart. Today I kitted up a Spring chart.

The idea is to create a Prairie Schooler Cross Stitch kit as well with a Floss RIng with all the typically called for Prairie Schooler DMC threads. This way if I decide to stitch on any of my Prairie Schooler projects throughout the year all I need is this Prairie Schooler Cross Stitch Kit that I have created for myself.

I do not need to take the time to kit up multiple projects because I have this kit set for all Prairie Schooler charts for throughout the thematic year.

I had originally intended to make this Kit using canvas tote bags I had purchased from Hobby Lobby. You can see me brainstorm my idea in Brianna’s Vlog #1 which you can watch here:

However, I found ironing on my HTV on the canvas material to be extremely difficult. And in truth, this part of the project was a total failure.

The benefit of thinking the HTV would adhere well to the vinyl was I had predesigned 5 different vinyl decal designs to place on my purchased bags. I have them available for purchase Here if you would like to use them.

I was able to successfully cricut on Prairie Schooler for my tool zipper bag.

I decided to not give up an try to create custom floss tags or thread drops for my DMC threads for my current Prairie Schooler project. I was able to create my own cut file as well as laminate a miniature picture of the Farm Fresh Prairie Schooler chart I am currently working on. I love how this Floss Ring turned out!

I decided to embroider the name Prairie Schooler on a piece of muslin backed with batting. I framed this with a simple stitch. This was embroidered using three strands of 310 Black DMC. I traced some font using a water soluble marker and then washed the blue away after I was done embroidering. I let this dry completely before adhering to my tote bag using Fabri Tac glue. This tote can be purchased at Hobby Lobby for $3.99 and the Fabri Tac Glue can be purchased at Hobby Lobby as well. I use this glue ALL of the time.

I am so pleased with how this cross stitch kit turned out the end. This was quite a creative journey for me. Starting with designing the SVGs, gathering my supplies, having to roll with the punches and ultimately creating something unique to me and my taste. I was quite proud that this kit was completely custom and my own brainchild if you will. With so many makers sharing on socia media it can sometimes feel quite diffficult to feel authentic and original to yourself. Making things for you without worry of criticiism and recognizable flaw. For example, I realize that this fabric will fray over time around the edges of the embroidery, yet, I love it and will treasure seeing it wear down over time.
